How is it implemented?
Tooth whitening can be performed using two techniques.
Office Bleaching
In office-based teeth whitening systems, high-concentration whitening agents are used in a clinical setting after a detailed examination. Depending on the type of whitening agent, the activation of the gel is enhanced with a high-intensity light. The desired result is achieved after a treatment course planned according to the needs.
Home Bleaching
This system, which can be easily applied at home thanks to custom-made trays prepared according to measurements taken from the mouth after a detailed examination, and whitening agents, involves frequent follow-up appointments.
Tooth whitening treatment (bleaching), also called teeth bleaching, is a process of changing the color of existing teeth to a whiter shade. Teeth can become yellower or darker over time due to genetics or dietary habits.
Even with a regular and frequent brushing habit, your teeth may not whiten. This color is as natural as your skin tone. For an aesthetically pleasing smile, your teeth need to be white and vibrant, along with having the right shape and regularity.
White and vibrant teeth have been among the most sought-after features in aesthetic smile design for centuries.
Tooth whitening can be applied to all healthy teeth. Your dentist will make the best decision regarding the appropriate tooth whitening procedure for you. A dental examination will determine if your teeth are suitable for whitening, and an approximate level of whiteness can be achieved, as shown to you with examples.
This aesthetic treatment is quite simple and quick. With a 15-20 minute whitening procedure at a dentist's clinic, you can easily achieve whiter teeth.
There are two different methods for teeth whitening:
methods you can apply at home or methods that can be applied by your dentist in a dental clinic.
Since the bleaching gel used for teeth whitening should only come into contact with the tooth surface and should be avoided from the lips and gums, it is healthier to choose methods performed under the supervision of a dentist. The composition of the bleaching gel used in this system is almost the same in all systems. The light source used is to make the gel slightly more active.
During a teeth whitening procedure, your doctor will first isolate your gums and surrounding tissues with a protective silicone material. Then, they will spread the whitening gel onto the surface of your teeth and use an appropriate light source to activate the gel. While the treatment time may vary slightly, it is generally determined to be 15-20 minute sessions.
It is normal to experience slight sensitivity during the whitening process. Your doctor will decide whether to continue the treatment based on the degree of sensitivity.
After the treatment, you will need to avoid certain foods and drinks. Specifically, avoiding cigarettes, coffee, tea, alcohol, and any other foods and drinks your doctor specifies for a short period is crucial for the success of the whitening process.
The whiter teeth you achieve after whitening will eventually revert to their original color depending on your oral hygiene and diet.
It's important to remember that tooth whitening is a cosmetic procedure. You can repeat it a few times a year as recommended by your dentist. Generally, the effects of tooth whitening last for about a year.
What matters here is your dentist's decision and effectiveness. Teeth lightening procedures have been widely used for over 20 years.
To determine if you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening, your teeth structure must be examined in detail, and tartar and stain removal must be performed prior to the whitening procedure.
It is important to remember that in individuals with gum disease, teeth whitening should only be performed after necessary treatments have been carried out by a periodontist or dentist.
As with all healthcare systems, in dentistry, doctors determining the course of treatment after a joint consultation can improve the quality and success of treatment.
