Oral Diagnosis and Radiology

Many systemic diseases also manifest significant symptoms in the mouth. For example, gum disease progresses very rapidly in diabetes. Similarly, frequent and numerous aphthous ulcers in the mouth can be one of the first signs of Behçet's disease. For these reasons, a separate department has emerged to deal with the diagnosis and treatment planning of oral diseases; Oral Diagnosis and Radiology has undertaken this task.

Dental X-rays (Dental Radiography)

Dental radiographs, or dental X-rays, are the most important tool in diagnosing oral diseases, especially those involving hard tissues such as teeth and jawbone. The two most commonly used types of dental X-rays are periapical (small, showing 2-3 teeth) and panoramic (large, showing all upper and lower teeth and the entire jawbone). Digital radiography devices, a computer-assisted technique, allow for detailed evaluation by manipulating color and light on the film image with very low radiation doses. In addition, MRI and CT scans may be requested, particularly for implant procedures and the diagnosis of joint diseases.

Diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases.

With all these methods, the remaining two-thirds of the tooth structure, of which only one-third is visible in the mouth, as well as inflammatory formations and impacted teeth within the jawbone, can be easily visualized and diagnosed. A good diagnosis enables the creation of an accurate treatment plan. Thus, all necessary treatment needs are identified early, preventing the development of larger problems in the future.
In the Oral Diagnosis and Radiology department, after the initial registration of patients, detailed examinations are performed. Then, one or more dental X-rays are taken according to the treatment needs, and a treatment plan is determined.
In accordance with the treatment plan, patients are referred to specialist physicians to begin their treatment. It is the duty of our department to answer all questions patients have regarding their treatment plan and duration.
