Implant Treatment

Implant Treatment

Dental implants consist of a titanium screw, abutment and prosthesis parts. The titanium screw remains in the jawbone and takes over the function of the tooth root, creating the best alternative to natural tooth roots. The prosthesis abutment, called abutment, connects to the titanium screw in the bone, allowing the restoration and titanium screw to merge. Implant treatment; It can be safely applied in single tooth deficiencies, multiple tooth deficiencies and total tooth deficiencies where there is not even a single tooth in the mouth. Thanks to implants, it is possible to provide function and aesthetics without damaging the natural teeth in the mouth.

In which cases can implants be performed?

It should not be forgotten that your teeth are an organ that affects not only our chewing but also our speech, appearance and even our personal charisma.

Implants can be applied in cases of single tooth deficiency, multiple tooth deficiency and complete toothlessness.

Who can be implanted?

  • Has a normal wound healing capacity,
  • Have good oral hygiene Have healthy bone structure in sufficient quantity or with the potential to reach sufficient quantity,
  • Implants can be applied to anyone who does not have systemic diseases (diabetes, advanced osteoporosis, etc.) that constitute a disadvantage for implant construction.

What are the advantages of implant application?

Implant is a robust, comfortable and reliable application. Prostheses made on implants create the most natural structure while replacing real teeth. In the process of completing the missing teeth, healthy teeth are not touched. Of course, it is a very important advantage that our healthy teeth are not cut in order to make prosthesis. In addition, implants are much longer lasting than other prosthesis options.

Implant treatment will be the first alternative that will come to mind, especially in our patients who have lost the chance to use fixed prostheses due to tooth deficiencies or in patients who complain that their total prostheses are not fixed in their mouths due to bone resorption.

Because the prolonged human lifespan due to the development of living standards has made many of us demand a certain comfort of life in advanced ages. Again, using removable (removable) prostheses from a young age is not something that any of us would desire. At this point, implants offer us a great treatment alternative.

The effects of tooth loss will be psychological as well as physiological. Implant, as a special application that replaces the natural tooth, also offers a definite and healthy solution to the physiological and psychological problems caused by tooth loss or congenital tooth deficiencies.

What is Oral Implantology?

Plates, screws and nails made of titanium, which are placed in the place of lost teeth for the purpose of treatment and do not have any side effects for the organism, and can function like a natural tooth after completing the combination with bone tissue, are called implants.

The tooth on the implant looks like your natural tooth, performs naturally.

Implant is an application as old as human history. In various periods of history, people have seen it as a solution to mount parts that will serve as teeth on the jawbone.

Titaniumis the most widely used metalas an implant material today. Titanium is a metal with excellent tissue compatibility and has been used safely in many areas of medicine for centuries.

Titanium, which is shaped as a root, cylinder or screw, is ready for use as a dental implant after undergoing a number of special processes (special design pickling, laser roughening, etc.). These processes determine the quality of the implant.

As a result of tooth loss or trauma, physiological bone resorption causes the level and volume of the jawbone to decrease. This prevents the prosthesis to be applied from fully fulfilling its function. As a result, there are problems with chewing and speech.

What are our treatment goals?

  • Implants and implant-supported prostheses are used to eliminate all kinds of toothlessness and missing functions.
  • Removal of a single missing tooth without affecting neighbouring healthy teeth
  • Removal of multiple missing teeth with fixed bridges using implants instead of removable dentures.
  • In case of complete edentulism, it is not possible to make fixed prostheses instead of removable prostheses (palate).
  • Can implants be applied at any age?
  • Yes. Only bone development in young people needs to be completed. This takes place by the age of 16-17 for girls and 18 for boys.
  • There is no upper age limit for adults. It can be applied to people of any age with appropriate general health status. Elderly people need dental implants more often because they lose more teeth and their jaw bones are resorbed.

Are all dental implants successful?

The success of implants requires good general health, i.e. adequate "healing potential", a correct diagnosis and proper cleaning and maintenance of the implant. In addition, appropriate surgery and a suitable prosthesis must have been performed by the physician. In addition, too much smoking and/or excessive alcohol consumption will have a negative impact on success. Depending on the above factors

How long is the lifespan of implants?

The first patients have been using their implants successfully for more than thirty years. This period depends on several variables, such as the general state of health, daily care and cleaning of the implant. Nevertheless, as with any other medical intervention, in principle, a lifetime guarantee of implant success can vary between 90-100%.

Cases where implantation is not possible;

Some physical conditions or disabilities may make implantation unfavourable. These are:

  1. Severe osteoporosis
  2. Important heart conditions
  3. Blood clotting problems
  4. Rheumatic diseases
  5. Overindulgence and similar conditions
  6. Patients with diabetes; in cases where diabetes is not under control and diabetes does not progress regularly
  7. Inappropriate, inadequate or anatomically risky bone structure in the jaw
  8. The patient is not predisposed to surgical procedures (excessive fear, anxiety)
  9. Patient's financial situation is not good (Being an expensive procedure)
  10. Situations in which the patient cannot maintain complete oral hygiene (mouth cleaning) after the implant.

If treatment fails?

The implant can be removed with a very simple procedure and the site heals spontaneously.

Are implants rejected by the body?

Implants are mostly made of biocompatible materials called titanium. Since titanium is not a living substance, it does not create an antigen - antibody reaction as in heart and kidney transplantations. Therefore, a "tissue rejection" cannot be mentioned.

Is there a risk of cancer?

In the world of medicine and dentistry, there is not a single exampleof dental implants causing cancer.

Are dental implants applied for cosmetic reasons?

The main application area of dental implants is the elimination of tooth deficiency. Cosmetic improvements can be achieved while eliminating tooth deficiency.

Can a guarantee be given?

Scientific studies have shown that implant success varies between 90-100%. However, as with any medical intervention, it is not possible to guarantee implants. However, in our clinic, the conditions necessary to increase the success of the treatment are brought together with the utmost care.

What are the main criteria that determine our treatment success?

First and foremost, case selection, that is, setting the right indication, is the first condition for treatment success.

  • Correct prosthetic planning
  • Clinical conditions (availability of necessary surgical materials and sterilisation conditions)
  • Demonstration of adequate surgical skills
  • Prefer implant brands with proven clinical reliability based on years and a large number of cases.
  • And to maintain the same care and skill when making the superstructure (implant prosthesis).
  • The main criteria that keep our treatment success high.

Is an implant an expensive treatment?

Implant procedures require a series of complex and long-term procedures. Therefore, they also require a higher expenditure than routine dental services. In a study of patients whose implant treatments were completed, patients stated that they received the return on their investment and that they would have the same thing done again if necessary.

Will I have any discomfort during and after the operation?

Operation can be performed under local anaesthesia and sedation without any pain or discomfort. General anaesthesia can also be applied if necessary. After the operation, there may be a slight pain or swelling that can be felt after any tooth extraction. These can be easily eliminated with painkillers and necessary precautions.

How long does it take to complete the implantation operation and prosthesis?

The duration of the surgery can vary from half an hour to several hours depending on the number of implants to be placed and the patient's conditions. After the operation, it is waited for 3-6 months for the implant and bone to fuse (osseointegration). Then, prostheses are placed on these implants with an application lasting several sessions.

Another option is active surface implants, which can be applied at a small cost difference. These new types of implants, which reduce the fusion (osseointegration) time to 2 weeks, thus allowing prosthesis construction in much shorter periods, can also be preferred depending on the time constraints of our patients.

In some cases where suitable conditions can be met, prosthesis can be made without waiting.

These prostheses, in which all the possibilities of modern dentistry are used, are marvels of engineering.
